Why the British Felt the Americans Owed Them

According to the British, the Americans owed Britain for several reasons. The British did provide America with some protection. The British also felt that they purveyed British culture. This means that Britain provided Americans with their culture. The country of Britain also bestowed America with manufacturers. For these reasons, Britain felt that the Americans were indebted to them so when the Americans wanted freedom, the British felt that Americans were not being appreciative and felt that America deserved everything that happened to them. Since Britain did these things for them, they just thought that America was being ungrateful instead of maybe considering America's side of the story.

  1. I would like to add, that historically, during the Seven Years War Britain made an agreement with America that if Americans fought against France, Britain would pay for the war. Americans saw Britain's financial policies as breaking this deal and an intrusion on benign neglect.
